Based in Cuba in October 1962, CIA operative Stefan Adamek uncovers a plot by anti-Communist rebels to steal and fire a Soviet ballistic missile at the United States. Led by a disillusioned friend of Fidel Castro, the rebels hope to trigger a U.S. invasion, topple Castro, and install a democratic government. Stakes rise when a U-2 spy plane uncovers Soviet missile sites under construction in the Cuban countryside. With the United States and the Soviet Union on the brink of nuclear war, will anti-Castro conspirators succeed in firing a missile at the U.S. mainland, or will Stefan be able to stop them? For help, he turns to an unexpected source: Sara Sanabria, a beautiful, young widow under pressure from Castro to denounce her late husband's writings and support his regime. Thrown together by fate, she and Stefan fall in love, ultimately forcing Sara to choose between reuniting with her six-year-old son in Miami or helping the man she loves save the world from nuclear holocaust.
