The discovery of a dead newborn baby in a barn on an Amish farm in America threatens to ruin the life of a young woman.

Circumstantial evidence indicates that the 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish girl believed to be the babys mother, is responsible for the murder.

Katie insists: she did not kill the baby. At the same time, disillusioned city advocate Ellie Hathaway flees to relatives living in the same area to clear her head.

Her aunt is related to Katie and before long Ellie reluctantly agrees to defend the young woman.

Ellie is also appointed as Katie's warden while she is on bail and has to move in with the Fishers.

To properly defend Katie, Ellie not only has to immerse herself in a world that is radically different from her own, but also find a way to understand Katie in terms of her view on the world.

When a man from her past makes his appearance on the farm, Ellie is forced to confront her own fears and desires.

A gripping story about two women and the secret that binds them.
