Since the early 1980s, the criminal justice system has become increasingly 'professional' and modernised and how this has affected the criminal justice sector.

Focusing mainly on the UK, the book uses some case studies to draw comparison with Britain and evaluate how imported policies have worked at home eg. the US 'broken windows' and 'three strikes and you're out' strategies.
