The greatest poems about war and conflict from across the ages and around the world.

A definitive collection of poems on war and human conflict compiled by an award-winning novelist, critic and poetry-prize judge.

A rich vein of poetry for English and Literacy as well as making valuable curriculum connections to History, PSHE and Citizenship From classics like Shakespeare's 'Henry V' speech at Agincourt, through the poetry of the WWI trenches to experiences of the WWII Home Front, as well as colonial and civil wars around the world, this diverse collection includes poetry reflecting the many perspectives on war and human conflict. Organised into four sections, the first covers pleas for peace and the attitudes that produce conflict, the second is the experience of war, the third considers the casualties, and the fourth deals with the aftermath of war.

With approximately 100 poems from across the literary tradition - Marlowe to Keith Douglas, Kipling to James Fenton, Whitman to Roger McGough, Owen to Paul Muldoon - this collection is both a thought-provoking read and an essential classroom and library reference.
