A translation of the tenth book of the "Purana" - which consists of 12 books.

The tenth book is the climax and raison d'etre of the entire "Purana" and falls into two equal sections - the childhood pastimes of Krishna in Vrindavan and his later adult life.

Ed Bryant's translation is faithful to the syntax and literal wording of the original, with some changes to sentence structure and length to ensure a readable English text.Along with the "Ramayana", the "Purana" is one of the most important and popular Hindu texts.

It has not often been translated because it is part of the popular tradition, rather than being a literary classic like the "Upanishads" and the "Gita".

It tells the story of the god Krishna, the supreme godhead of the Hindus and worshipped by them for over 2.5 millenia.

The most popular stories about him (found in this, the tenth book) are of his childhood and adolescence in the forests of Vrindavan among the herdsmen and women - stories which lie behind much of Hindu art: painting, sculpture, drama, dance and song.
