Democracy and corruption in Europe

The last twenty years have seen the growth of widespread corruption in public life everywhere, in developed countries as well as in authoritarian regimes.

Indeed, this is, in every respect, country to the ideas and principles informing democracy - freedom, equality, the rule of law - thereby posing a threat to the legitimacy and stability, in fact to the existence.Disenchantment with established political parties and rampant populism which is apparent throughout the western world point to the gravity of the situation and the extent of the damage brought about by a combination of widespread corruption and an economic and social situation that has deteriorated.This volume brings together major scholars to analyze the various forms of corruption in western European countries, in Russia and Japan and assess its impact on the political and administrative system, on political parties and on standards in public life.
