This first volume, The Early Years, covers the era from 1799 to 1942. Jeanne-Genevieve Garnerin, the first lady to jump, actually drop in a basket under a parachute, plus innovators such as Kathe Paulus, Tiny Broadwick and Adeline Gray are profiled alongside the lady daredevils and record-setters. Moreover, the progression of parachuting techniques and equipment is examined.
