This report is derived from an investigative study undertaken to assist the construction industry in promoting improvements in productivity.

It compares four UK, one American, one German and one Swedish construction project to highlight productivity problems relating to mechanical and electrical building services, and to suggest remedies to solve these problems and improve performance.

The study focuses upon activities specific to the on-site works.

The aim is to divide output into its productive and non-productive components and then to develop best-practice guidelines relating to input that would maximize the productive time and subsequent productivity achieved at the workplace.

A comprehensive review of literature on the subject is also covered as part of the overall study.

This report provides definitions of site productivity, conclusions and best-practice recommendations based upon site research, and a methdology for site productivity measurement.

This is complemented by detailed descriptions of the seven projects monitored, together with an analysis of delays and productivity on each of the projects.
