Lecture Notes: Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics aims to give students a clear understanding of the principles of the pathophysiology of diseases, the molecular mechanisms of drug action in humans, and an appreciation of drug therapy in the context of overall health care so that they will know how and when to use drugs in clinical practice.

This new edition is fully updated to include the latest drug treatments available.

It includes information on drugs used in special situations such as during pregnancy and labour, and those used for treating children.

More information is now included on guidelines and formularies to show how these fit into clinical practice.

This edition also follows the latest Lecture Notes series text design.

Whilst the basic science of pharmacology is usually taught in the first two years of medical school, clinical pharmacology, prescribing in practice, is taught at medical schools during attachments.

Some schools will also back this up with formal teaching of the subject, but others leave students to teach themselves beyond what is taught in the wards. It is also a skill that junior doctors continue to learn and refine, and the book should continue to be of use after medical school into the house-officer years.
