The editors and contributors for this book present a work which familiarizes the reader with a new wave of EEG research: the exploration of event-related desynchronization and synchronization.

The domain of ERD and ERS has transcended its original somatosensorimotor realm and comprizes now the whole domain of afferent systems and, furthermore, the great new challenge to modern EEG, i.e. neurocognitive functions. Movement research as such has also found a new tool for further progress in the use of ERD and ERS.

This brings us to diseases of motor systems and hence to the field of clinical neurology.
