Giving Back, Not Giving Up : Generativity Among Older Female Inmates

Generativity, defined as (the penchant for) giving back, among prison inmates, has received little attention.

Through in-depth interviews with female prisoners, the inclination toward and practice of generativity emerge.

The findings suggest that older women experience incarceration in unique ways, with generativity at the centre of daily life.
