This study is devoted to the multifaceted and often very influential spiritual women's communities that affected their times not only in terms of culture and religion, but also economically and politically.

The volume includes a survey of the manuscripts and early printed books from South German convents that entered the present-day Bavarian State Library after secularisation and a comprehensive specialised bibliography.
