Dermatitis is a serious and costly problem in printing.

Of 1189 printers involved in a study, 41 per cent had suffered from a skin complaint at some time and 10 per cent had a current problem.

Of the skin problems diagnosed, 58 per cent were occupationally related.HSE believes that there is a need for better recognition and understanding of the disease, better skin care provision and more rigorous monitoring and surveillance to deal with problems in the early stages.

This leaflet details a series of simple steps to help employers in the printing industry prevent the disease and reduce the incidence of dermatitis.
