In the late 1800s, an English company called Weldon's offered monthly newsletters that featured needlework patterns and instructions for projects.

Later, the company inaugurated a series of books titled Weldon's Practical Needlework, each volume consisting of twelve issues of newsletters bound with a cloth cover.

Every book is filled with hundreds of vintage projects, illustrations, information on little-known techniques, fashion as it was at the turn of the 20th Century, and brief histories of needlework.

Volume 12: is chock full of knitted and crocheted garments including a fabulous assortment of knitted socks, doilies, toys, insertions, and household items.

One entire section is devoted to what Victorians called waistcoats - we call them vests - in knitting, crochet, and canvaswork.

To add some spice, some beautiful white-on-white Mountmellick embroidery, drawn-thread work, and smocking is also included.
