Scotsman Andrew Lang, who lived from 1844 to 1912, was a poet, novelist, literary critic, and anthropologist. He is primarily known for being a folklore and fairy story collector. At the University of St. Andrews, he is honoured through the Andrew Lang lectures. Nowadays, Lang is primarily recognised for his writings on religion, mythology, and folklore. A timeless collection of fairy tales, His Blue Fairy Book (1889) was exquisitely printed and illustrated. The Andrew Lang's Fairy Books series of fairy tale collections that came after this one was published.He gives credit to his wife for translating and transcribing the most of the stories in the collections in the prologue of The Lilac Fairy Book.
