This book draws upon the observations of thirty teachers of English in the early years of their careers to consider three key issues: classroom approaches; the daily work of the English teacher; and the individual teacher in the wider setting of the English department.

Detailed examples of successful practice are presented and there are plentiful references to sources of further reading.
