English: an Integrated Approach - a Course Book for Secondary Schools - Student's Book 3

This course integrates language and literature, and is designed especially for students in Kenyan secondary schools, drawing on current developments from the field of English as a Second Language.

It integrates the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, teaches grammar in context, using a wide variety of texts, and involves the student in an interactive way. The 13 units of this workbook offer ample opportunities for students to explore written texts, listening passages and texts for speaking aloud (poetry, drama and role-play).

The texts are thematically integrated, as is the language work on structure, sounds and vocabulary. A particular feature of the course is the carefully structured teaching of writing.

This includes strictly controlled writing based on model paragraphs, and a step-by-step plan introducing students to the principles of expository writing and free creative writing. A teacher's book, accompanying this workbook, helps the teacher to develop the integrated approach to all aspects of language work, to the student's best advantage.
