Growing Up On the Curragh.

Patricia O'Sullivan (Patty) was born and reared on the Curragh, Co.

Kildare. She is one of ten children born to Annie and John. On her eightieth birthday celebrations her siblings, then nine, encouraged her to write about their growing up on the Curragh during the Twenties, Thirties and Forties.

It is obvious that they had a very happy childhood roaming the Curragh Plains as far as Suncroft, Kilcullen and further east.

As she wrote in her memoirs, 'they went through four prams' in the process.

Sadly, her brother Harold and sister Joan died during the first year of starting and only a short month ago her brother Emmet who lived in Cork with his wife Evelyn, and two daughters and his four grandchildren, died as this book went to the publishers.

Working in Dublin she met and married Sean in 1956 and their three girls were born 'Dubliners' and are very proud of this.

Of course, they spent part of their childhood roaming the plains from another angle.

Sean's business brought him to the London office in 1963 where their son was born.

As there was no ban on married women working, Patty resumed her career.

Always with the future in mind and on Sean's retirement they returned to Ireland to continue their son's education (their three girls had already graduated).After a vote among the family they settled in Cork where her two brothers and two sisters had made their homes.

Continuing her career she worked and lived in Cork for another ten years and eventually sold their house and returned to Dublin in 1990 where she again continued with her work.

In 1991 Sean died suddenly, a sad day because he had many friends and family there.

However, she continued working and retired in 1994. Since then as well as enjoying her grandchildren she found time to travel extensively taking in Melbourne, Toronto, Montreal, Spain, France, Italy, and Greece.

Then turning to Cruising (her favourite way) starting in Dublin she cruised the Mediterranean east and West along North Africa and up to Istanbul and twice to the Canaries.

Another Cruise is planned this year.
