Handbook of Counselling (2nd ed)

Since the Handbook of Counselling was first published, counselling has undergone a period of rapid growth and change.

This, the second edition, has been revised and thoroughly updated with the addition of six new chapters, making it a comprehensive and up-to-the-minute guide to counselling theory and practice.

The contributors, all experienced practitioners, reflect the diversity and also the coherence of counselling today.

They examine the principles of counselling, the issues affecting practice and consider how the profession is likely to develop in the future.

The handbook is divided into five parts: Introduction, Arenas, Settings, Themes and Issues.

Part 1 focuses on the current and future development of counselling and examines counselling in the context of the lifecycle.

Part 2 describes the main arenas in which counselling occurs: individual, couples, family and group counselling.

Part 3 focuses on counselling in different settings including private practice, voluntary settings, education, medical contexts and organizations.Part 4 covers specific topics ranging from gender, race and sexual orientation to careers counselling and counselling for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The final part focuses on research and evaluation, counsellor - client exploitation and other professional issues affecting counselling.
