This mixed-method study with the distribution of surveys to 297 small and minority businesses who were successful contractors, lends support to the argument that the leadership styles of successful minority business entrepreneurs have significant influence over public contracting.

A representative sample with a +/- 5% margin of error consisted of 97 completed surveys.

There were three nested factor models. The primary independent variables were task-oriented leaders, relationship-oriented leader initiating structure and consideration formulating relationships including task ambiguity.

The primary dependent variables were task ambiguity and predicting business owners who win contracts.

The study utilized a bivariate statistical test along with a hierarchical logistic regression analysis.

Consideration and Initiating Structure scales of the LBDQ--XII with task ambiguity as the dependent variable each correlated separately made a contribution in showing that minority leaders did have a moderating effect.
