Judicial Systems and Safeguards of Human Rights in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Numerous questions have been asked by some critics about the nature of the judicial system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In response to such questions, this short book, translated from the original Arabic and published in association with the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives, endeavours to present some aspects of the judicial system from an official Saudi point of view, and to demonstrate how it honours human rights.

Topics dealt with in the book include: Islam as a religion upholding justice; the sources of reference of the judicial system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; the general characteristics of the Saudi judicial system; the development of the Saudi judicial system; the functions, aims and departments of the Saudi Ministry of Justice; human rights safeguards in the Kingdom's judicial system; and, a breakdown of the three justice statutes and the human rights safeguards contained therein.
