Scholars have criticized traditional leadership models, claiming that they no longer addressed the challenges faced by leaders today.

Sanders, Hopkins and Geroy (2003) suggested transcendental leadership as an alternative model and argued that spirituality was responsible for leadership effectiveness.

The three dimensions of this spirituality - consciousness, moral character and faith (Sanders et al., 2003) - and the impact they have on small women business owners were examined.

A survey was conducted from a sample of 100 leaders, including those belonging to Business Research Services, Inc.'s online member directory, 8a Sources.

These leaders have been instrumental to the economy and needed a blueprint for their success in leadership effectiveness (Stanford, Oates & Flores, 1995).

The transcendental leadership model could serve as this blueprint.
