A Fighting Heart : The Adventures of a Foundling

In the wake of a fearsome shipwreck off the coast of southern France, a single survivor is found on the beach.

The delicate, dark-skinned child will never learn to speak, but under the care of a kindly innkeeper and his wife, she finds a safe home. And in their courtyard she meets Bastien, a young musician who is soon conscripted by a nobleman mustering forces to serve in Louis XIV's war against the Huguenots.

Impatient of Bastien's return, Garance fearlessly sets off to find him.
