Korea : People, Country and Culture

This text and factsheets are designed primarily for use by students at Key Stage 4 of the National Curriculum and are intended to be a resource bank of information on a wide range of topics, inlcuding Korean geography, history, religion, arts, tourism, business and economics.

Korea has emerged from a turbulent recent political history to become one of the new economic "tigers" of East Asia, with companies like Hyundai, Samsung, Goldstar and Daewoo now household names.

Korea, though, is far more than just politics and economics.

It is a country of stunning physical beauty, a country of a rich history spanning some 5000 years, with a succession of dynasties under which literature and the arts flourished, and it is a country that is changing rapidly - where the old can still be seen alongside the new, and where urban sprawl meets age-old rural scenes that seem frozen in time.
