Take One Picture

Part of the National Gallery London series
See all formats and editions

Each year the National Gallery, London, chooses one painting from its collection to inspire cross-curricular work for primary school children.

Teachers from all over the country can come to the Gallery to discuss the painting with members of the Education Department before using the image in their schools as a stimulus for ICT, literacy, history and other subjects, as well as art.

The National Gallery then displays a selection of the children's work in the annual Take One Picture exhibition.

It also provides resources, of which this DVD is just one, which teachers can use away from the Gallery.

This DVD brings together ten years' experience of the Take One Picture scheme.

Packed with ideas for teachers, it includes eleven short talks by Gallery specialists on paintings including Titian's "Bacchus" and "Ariadne", Degas' "Beach Scene" and Uccello's "Saint George" and the "Dragon", and examples of previous work. "Take One Picture" aligns closely with the DfES Primary Strategy: Excellence and Enjoyment, which supports exploring the links between areas.
