See all formats and editions

This teacher's resource book is designed to help young people to understand the key political, social and economic forces which will shape their lives.

It aims to develop knowledge and skills to help young people understand the world in which they live, and to participate in it as knowledgeable global citizens.

It is not prescriptive but aims to provide teachers with a practical and flexible resource.

The book is made up of text, activities, glossary boxes, case studies and a list of resources and addreses of useful organisations.

The book is aimed at teachers of students aged 14+ in secondary education.

For example those in those with responsibility in England and Wales for teaching and co-ordinating personal and social education and citizenship education, and teachers of geography and economics will find it particularly useful.

Parts of it will also be of interest and use to Religious Education and History teachers.

The text has been written to provide teachers with background information, but it may also be suitable for young people.

The activities have been devised to encourage students to think, react and formulate their own opinions about the issues. The glossary boxes explain words and terms that may be new to students and/or teachers.

The case studies are provided to give examples of the issues and may be used as a basis for discussion by the students.

The resources - which have been designed to be self-contained and are photocopiable for classroom use - have been selected to complement the pack and recognise that many teachers will want to teach some of the issues introduced here in more depth.
