Design and technology accommodation in secondary schools : a design guide ([2004 ed.])

This publication contains practical guidance on the process of creating or adapting accommodation for design and technology teaching in secondary schools.

It is aimed at teachers and governors, local education authority advisers and building professionals.

Chapters review key planning principles and accommodation requirements involved, as well as giving more detailed guidance on planning individual timetabled and untimetabled learning spaces; non-teaching support spaces and storage aspects; furniture, surface finishes and fittings to create a successful learning environment; machines, servicing and equipment; services and environmental design; cost guidance with a worked case-study; health and safety regulations relevant to design and technology.

This publication supersedes the previous 1996 edition of Building Bulletin 81 (ISBN 0112709176), and has been revised to take account of current education policies, including issues around ICT and inclusion.
