This volume brings together 14 leading specilaists to pay tribute to Dr. Peter Beale, founding editor of English Manuscript Studies 1100-1700 (16 volumes published so far by the British Library) and also the creator of Catalogue of English Literary Manuscripts 1450-1700, who has done so much to promote the study of the primary sources of this major but largely under-appreciated area of our literary culture.
