This book revisits the time, recreates the atmosphere, talks to those who were there (at Wembley and beyond), and builds a picture of what we argued over, ate, worried about, listened to, wore and watched in 1966. "Britain in 1966" combines serious analysis of events with a look at the lighter side of life.

The authors, both journalists, have interviewed those who were in the thick of all aspects of life in Britain in 1966 and those behind the headlines - someone who went to see Bob Dylan live at the Albert Hall, someone who saw Cassius Clay fight Henry Cooper in London, journalists who reported on the World Cup Final and people who worked at Wembley in 1966.

This was also the year of the Aberfan disaster. It was the year George Harrison married Pattie Boyd; Twister, Action Man and Tiny Tears were launched; Camberwick Green hit TV screens for the first time; and George Best was Manchester United's star forward. "Britain in 1966" is peppered with snapshots of the year - for example, the ten most popular films, TV programmes, West End shows, cars, books, sporting events, cigarettes, chocolates - and how much they cost.
