These papers are based on presentations prepared for the symposium Advances in Computational Materials Science and Engineering Methods.

The original symposium description is as follows: "The computational branch of materials science and engineering (CMSE) is a booming business with the number of research groups becoming involved increasingly rapidly.

Newly developed methods are being reported frequently while continued efforts have lead to substantial advances in existing methods.

CMSE is finding its way in all fields of materials science, including metals and alloys, ceramics, semiconductors, nano-materials, polymers, biomaterials, and geologic materials.

CMSE is also covering scales from atomic to meso-microstructure-scale all the way up to component scale. The underlying goal of this symposium is to bring together computational materials scientists from all these different fields and provide the opportunity for cross-disciplinary learning, and all presentations should be prepared with this in mind. For this symposium we would like to invite the scientific community to present recent advances in the development of (new) methods and approaches in CMSE, including but not limited to:all types of molecular dynamics; dislocation dynamics; Monte Carlo type modeling; Phase Field modeling; Cellular Automata; Level Set Methods; and, Finite Element Simulation.
