It also covers the principle flowering or fruit trees, grasses and ferns.The colour paintings were all done specially for this book and wherever possible are from fresh specimens.

Over 1500 principle species are shown in colour, and the text is further illustrated with over1200 line-drawings.The Royal Horticultural Society has recognised the outstanding nature of this work by awarding Marjorie Blamey the Gold Medal, the highest award, for her paintings in this book.
