A leader's guide to supporting students with autism spectrum disorders

This book focuses on building districts’ and schools’ capacities to support high quality educational programming for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) with evidence-based practices (EBP). Three key areas are emphasized: (1) understanding the needs of learners with ASD; (2) comprehending how these needs influence academic and social behavior; and (3) explaining how EBP link to these characteristics.

The text is organized around the Classroom Checklist, an observation tool developed by the authors to review and assess environment, instruction, and communication in classrooms serving kids with autism. Using the Classroom Checklist and book together, readers can assess EBP in general and special education settings, utilize a coaching framework to ensure long-term use of EBP, and much more.
