Little Dog doesn't like going to Great Aunt M's house.

It's unfamiliar and a bit intimidating. Big Dog isn't much help, either. He won't hold Little Dog's hand because he says it's soppy.

Little Dog's fears are embodied by the 'hairies' and he's convinced that they have stolen his beloved Froggie.

Little Dog has to face up to his fears (and confront the hairies) in order to be reunited with Froggie.

It's only by being brave that Little Dog discovers the hairies are not at all scary and that they just want to be his friend.
