The Chinese Triangle of mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan constitutes one of the most dynamic regions in today's world economy.

By no means isolated entities, the three territories are linked by strong kinship ties and share a common historical, cultural and linguistic heritage.

In addition, since the late 1970s, there has been an escalation of economic integration between the three.

Employing an historical perspective, this work highlights the origins, the transformation and the trajectory of the Chinese Triangle.

The book adopts an interdisciplinary approach, exploring politics, economics and culture to provide a comprehensive review of the critical issues involved in the Chinese integration process.

In particular, the authors emphasize structural forces such as industrial restructuring, marketization, democratization and ethnic mobilization in shaping the contour of the Chinese Triangle.

They also draw conclusions about whether successful integration will transform the Triangle into an economic powerhouse, which would drive growth in the Asia-Pacific region over the next century.
