This book attempts to explain the nature of the influence of Platonism on English poetry, exclusive of drama, of the 16th and 17th centuries.

The subject is not treated from the standpoint of the individual poet but, rather, the whole body of English poetry of the period is interpreted as an integral output of the spiritual thought and life of the time.
