See all formats and editions

The Regis University collection of New Mexican Santos is the largest teaching collection of santos in the United States.

Documenting some 300 pieces of Spanish colonial and contemporary devotional art, this book also tells the story of the acquisition of the santos, beginning with the author's purchase of an old painting for $10 when he was still a student.

This unique collection includes the work of master santeros from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as well as contemporary masters such as Charlie Carrillo and Max Roybal.

In addition to painted and carved saints, the Regis collection includes milagros, crosses, candelabra, and handkerchief art.
