This work is, entitled "Continuity and Change in the Educational System of Hyderabad State under Nizams: 1720s-1940s", is an attempt to understand the education system in the princely state of Hyderabad. It presents a brief summary of education system under Qutb Shahis (1518-1687) and a detailed description of education system under the Nizams of Hyderabad. As the topic intends to examine the continuity and change, it begins from the preceding dynasties prior to the Nizams; the Mughal and the Qutb Shahis. The Mughals could not make any significant contribution to the education system, because of their short rule in Hyderabad. However, the Qutb Shahis had left a rich legacy in this aspect in the form of establishing numerous traditional educational institutions. It highlights the prevalence of the elements of modernity along with the remnants of traditional education in the Hyderabad State, aiming to develop its indigenous education system.

In fact, the periodic changes in the State's education system used to assimilate the continuities of the past. The Nizams' maintained a connection between the "philosophy of idealism" and the "philosophy of pragmatism" in the practice of dissemination of education. Furthermore, they maintained a balance between traditional and modern education.
