This is a coming of age story of a working class Irish teenager cast adrift in England. The 

trials and tribulations he encounters, with the sometimes bewildering incidents taking the 

reader along on the disjointed ride of the main character through his wandering squandering 

life. His time in a Borstal institution and his return home. .
