Geology of the Glen Affric District

The remote area of the Northern Highlands described in this memoir is one of isolated, rugged beauty which particularly attracts climbers and ramblers.

Many of these people wish to understand better how this area has evolved geologically and this memoir should help them to do this.

This region has a fundamental geological significance in that it lies in the heart of the Caledonian mountain chain with a geology dominated by the intense deformation, metamorphism and igneous intrusion which produced the Caledonian orogenic belt in late Precambrian and early Palaeozoic times.
