Collins Longman secondary school atlas for the Caribbean

A completely new atlas for Caribbean Secondary Schools, perfectly created for students studying geography in Forms 1-5 and is suitable for candidates sitting Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CESC) examinations. The atlas opens with an extensive map skills section which introduces students to the concepts of map projections, latitude and longitude, map grids, scale and use of map symbols.

Students are introduced to a variety of map types such as local large scale survey maps, reference maps and special topic maps, many examples of which are found throughout the atlas. The atlas is then organised into colour coded sections which deal with the world's Natural, Man-made and man-environment systems.

Within these sections Caribbean case studies are used either a typical examples or for comparison with other regions of the world with similar or contrasting issues. A 32 page section dedicated to Caribbean reference mapping is supported with thematic mapping and the latest statistics to give an overall profile of all the CARICOM and neighbouring Caribbean territories. The 'rest of the world' reference mapping is supported with continental thematic maps and more detailed mapping of a selection of focus countries e.g.

Venezuela, Brazil, USA, Nigeria, Kenya, Japan. All countries of the world are profiled in a separate section which lists the latest statistics for key demographic and socio-economic facts.

This provides data for student s wishing to create their own graphs or tables to support individual geographical projects. The 23 page index includes full geographical co-ordinates. Each section is concluded with a series of Practice Exercises which give guidance on how to access information in the atlas, improve students map skills and become independent learners.
