A Soldier's Story

Norman Jewison directs this 1980s drama based on the play by Charles Fuller.

In 1944 African-American US Army attorney Captain Davenport (Howard E.

Rollins Jr) is assigned to tackle the case of Sergeant Waters (Adolph Caesar), who was brutally murdered at the segregated army base he oversaw in Fort Neal, Louisiana.

Davenport soon discovers that the deceased was a ruthless and vicious bully, and begins to question the widely-held assumption that the murder was racially motivated.
