Vivien Ardley's book on her husband Neil's life has been published by Jazz In Britain. Titled Neil Ardley: Kaleidoscopes and Rainbows, the book includes contributions from Dave Gelly, Neil's musical colleague in the New Jazz Orchestra, and John Coles who knew Neil well and has written about his electronic studio. The book covers Neil's entire life and all aspects of his various careers. The cover has been specially created by David Macaulay the celebrated American illustrator who worked with Neil on The Way Things Work. The book covers Neil's other life as an author of over 100 books on science, nature and technology. The hardback book is lavishly presented in full colour and illustrated with many previously unseen photographs and ephemera from Neil's personal collection and other contributors' archives. Vivien spoke to a number of people who knew Neil well when she was researching the book, and you can be assured it's all based on first-hand experiences. As an added bonus, the book includes two companion audio CDs, one of previously unreleased electronic music from Neil's tape archive; the other of a previously unheard, early, Danish Radio Big Band recording of Neil's New Jazz Orchestra arrangements. Detailed sleeve notes for each CD are included in the book and these CDs will only be available with the book and not sold separately.
