Successful Acquisitions in Germany

Investment in Germany, especially by US and UK-based companies and pension funds and by companies from continental Europe, Canada, Australia and Asia (including Japan) is increasing.

Germany (by far the largest European economy) is one of the latest European markets and offers attractive business opportunities.

Geographically, it is located in the centre of Europe and has therefore not only direct access to all of the western European markets but also to the former Eastern-block countries.

For a number of reasons many German companies are for sale. The idea behind this book arose from a seminar on M&A transactions in Germany which the author, together with a number of colleagues, held in London in March 1999.

From this seminar and from the questions posed by the high-ranking attendees it became clear that there was a need for a concise guide for foreigners thinking of investing in Germany. This book is aimed at top and senior management of potential strategic or financial investors and at their (foreign) advisers.

Its intention is to provide a quick and precise overview on how to make "successful acquisitions in Germany".

It covers all relevant stages from the identification and acquisition of the target to its later integration, addressing all the main legal, financial and managerial issues. All the authors are experienced M&A practitioners.

They and the professional firms they represent have a long-standing tradition and extensive experience in advising and supporting foreign clients on all issues related to acquisitions in Germany.
