Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) was created to enable industrialized countries to meet their greenhouse gas reduction targets by buying emission reduction certificates from investments in greenhouse gas reduction initiatives in developing countries.

China is seen as the most attractive host country for CDM in the future, however, it has to develop a large portfolio of CDM projects in order to capitalize on its potentials.
