The National Academy of Science Building provides an overview of the contributions made by the NAS, a description of its historic building, dedicated in 1924 in our nation's capital, and an account of the restoration of this home for science in America.The National Academy of Sciences is a private, non-profit society of distinguished scholars.

Established by an Act of Congress signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, the NAS is charged with providing independent advice to the nation on matters related to science and technology.

In its 150-year history of service to the nation, the Academy has produced thousands of reports that have led to significant and lasting improvements in the lives of all the world's citizens.
