Delaware Art Museum : Selected Treasures

Founded in 1912, the Delaware Art Museum's world-renowned collection of more than 12,000 works of art focuses on American Art and Illustration of the 19th through the 21st centuries and the English Pre-Raphaelite Movement of the mid-19th century.

The collections provide an outstanding overview of the evolution of American art - from Benjamin West, Frederic E.

Church and Winslow Homer, to Andrew Wyeth, Edward Hopper and George Segal, and the country's largest collection of works by John Sloan.

The museum's extensive collection of English Pre-Raphaelite art includes works by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones.

This beautifully illustrated guide examines in depth the masterpieces from the collection with an introduction to each section providing background information on the art, the major artists and their impact as well as the significance of the collection to the art world in general.

Each entry is accompanied by an extended caption and often a colour detail of a key element within the work.
