The History of Libraries in the Western World (4 Revised edition)

First, I thought it was time to develop more fully the conceptual scheme governing the organization of the book, and readers will note the extensive revision of Chapter 1 in support of that objective.

Second, it was clearly time to attempt to work into the text recent scholarship in the 'new history of the book, ' and that effort has been made throughout the text, but especially in the updated bibliographies at the end of each chapter.
