Irene Wellington is considered one of the truly original figures in the development of calligraphy in the 20th century.

She influenced the transformation of calligraphy from a medieval craft to a modern art form in which personal expression played a key role helping to make it a vibrant art form.

This reissue of the 1987 publication contains around 100 examples of Irene Wellington's writing and illumination reproduced in colour along with a discussion of her methods and techniques.
