The goal of this project was to review available literature and collect, in two-stages, new data on methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) in drinking water sources from community water systems (CWSs) in the United States.

The two-stage collection of new data was designed to provide representative information on the frequency of detection, concentration, temporal variability, and distribution of MTBE and other gasoline oxygenates, MTBE degradation products, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in untreated groundwater and surface water sources of drinking water.
