It now features more student models, extensive coverage of avoiding plagiarism and evaluating sources, plus a chapter on "10 Habits for Successful Students", which provides information on time management strategies, advice for utilizing campus services, tips on utilizing technology, insight into becoming active learners and other essential topics.

It also incorporates a "College Survival Skills" section.

Information on the research process has been significantly expanded with more on topics such as using electronic sources evaluating both print and electronic sources.
